Decades after their 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament fight, middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence find themselves martial arts rivals once again. During the original Karate Kid shoot, the late director John G. The team behind Cobra Kai dug into the studio vault and found a ton of never-before-seen clips, which they were able to sneak into the series via flashbacks. One of them includes Zabka’s real mom, who was in the stands from multiple angles that hadn’t been seen until 2018.

Many people believe that Miyagi’s name on his gravestone is a continuity error, as in Karate Kid 4 (1994), his name is listed as Keisuke, but it was actually previously listed on a sign held for him by Chozen in Karate Kid 2 (1986) to be Nariyoshi. This means that it was The Next Karate Kid that changed his name, while Cobra Kai kept the name previously given to him. Another interesting fact, however, is that the name given in The Karate Kid Part II was not the original given name for Miyagi. In Karate Kid (1984), it can be briefly seen on Miyagi’s dog tags, attached to the keys to the 1948 Ford given to Daniel for his birthday, that Miyagi’s first name is Hideo.
But it’s so much more than that

I didn’t have a lot of expectations going into this series, or at least I didn’t have high expectations. The ones I had were of a fun low budget adventure in the past. The production values are great, the casting is great, the plot, the writing, the tone, the pacing, the soundtrack.
Miyagi taught us about balance
It’s great from start to finish and that’s what Mr. It seems to hit so many of the right notes without pushing anything too far, the comedy is just right, the emotional moments are just right, the cheese, the action is just right. It also does a great job of letting the viewer decide who the real heroes and villains are because unlike the movies, nothing here is black and white. If you’ve seen the movies, you’ll really appreciate that.
If you haven’t, you’ll probably really enjoy it anyway
It is autonomous and seems modern, but in continuity, 30 years later, it does it in a masterful way and very respectful of its past and its source without relying too much on it. BANSAI!!!
